Warren, MI: BSL back on agenda for Tuesday meeting

By WonderBull, July 24, 2009

Ordinance that originally proposed restrictions for owning pit bulls is back on the agenda for next Tuesday, July 28th. I will not have a current version of the proposed ordinance until Monday. I’m also a bit concerned about the note that states they are amending the section regarding “Immediate Removal of Animals”. I don’t recall seeing that on previous agendas, and since it is lumped together under the same agenda item number as the pit bull ordinance, I think there is legitimate cause for extra concern.

Location:
Regular meetings of the Council are held at the Warren Community Center auditorium, located at 5460 Arden (which is south of 14 Mile Road and west off of Mound), on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. The meetings are open to the public.

City Council meetings are cablecast live on TV Warren Government Channels Comcast 5 and WideOpenWest Channel 10 the night of the meeting.

Any news on the latest in Warren? I’m considering buying a house there but my dog doesn’t look right to some…

Nothing new since July 28th, when the council took BSL off the agenda a second time.

At that time, council members indicated that an independent meeting would be convened to discuss the BSL issue, to determine whether or not the draft ordinance will appear on future agendas. Word is that one or two pit bull advocates will be invited to attend this meeting, and actively participate in the discussion. I have not heard anything since. To my knowledge, it is still possible it could rear its ugly head again.

If you happen to have any idea of who the councillor(s) are who are supporting (or against) the possibility of BSL, I’d be interested to know so that I can narrow the focus of my calls to the council, but I’ll call every single one of them if I have to. If I can, I’d like to get more ‘behind the scenes’ info so I can decide if I should just take Warren off my list of possible cities. Diana has my e-mail address in Indianapolis if you want to contact me off the board. Elmer’s human, Lori

I’m going to start contacting the councillors by phone. I need to *hear* if they sound wishy-washy about their position or if it is a firm position. I don’t want to buy a house that I then have to abandon because they make some stupid BSL! I’ll e-mail WonderBull with a summary of my conversations.
