Luke the Dog – Pit bull silent film star!
Luke appeared in a number of early silent comedies due to the fact that his owners – Roscoe (Fatty) Arbuckle and his wife Minta Durfee – both worked at Keystone Studios.
In typical pit bull fashion, Luke’s presence on the screen showcased his love for people, loyalty to his owners, determination, clownish nature, and adaptability to challenging situations. Often foiling the “bad guy” in many movie plots, Luke was Lassie, RinTinTin and Benji all rolled up into one. Only a Pit Bull could accomplish such athletic feats with remarkable personality. A true ambassador for the breed, Luke’s antics made him a favorite among silent film audiences of the day, and for many years to come!
Luke’s movies include: “The Scarecrow” starring Buster Keaton, and “Fatty’s Plucky Pup” starring Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle.
