Flat Rock, MI: Petition to BAN Pit Bulls
Just received this info, I was informed that this will be presented at tomorrow’s City Council meeting. The last agenda listed on the city website is from August, so I have no way to confirm.
Pit bull broke out of the gate of its owner’s privacy fenced-in yard, and went after the neighbor’s Poodle, who was on a leash at the time. Poodle’s leg was severely damaged. Poodle’s owner opted to euthanize his dog, rather than pay to have the damaged leg amputated. Pit Bull owner did not have his dog licensed or proof of current rabies. Owner was fined and pit bull was quarantined at local shelter. Poodle owner claimed the pit bull bit him, but pit bull owner claims he saw the poodle bite its owner. Court hearing DID NOT find the pit bull to be a “vicious dog”. Pit Bull owner decided independently to have his dog euthanized.
The poodle’s owner has circulated a petition to BAN pit bulls from Flat Rock, and will be presenting the petition at tomorrow’s city council meeting. Poodle owner will also be presenting Allen Park’s recent pit bull ban ordinance, as a sample law.
I looked at Flat Rock’s ordinances, and could not find anything pertaining to vicious or dangerous dogs.
